BECKER, Bruce
June 18, 1963-October 17, 2008
Age 45, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 17, 2008 in Santa Clara, CA. Bruce was born on June 18, 1963 in Sacramento, CA, raised as a teenager in
Monterey, CA, and as an adult resided in Santa Clara, CA. He was the son of Dr. George A. Becker and Beverlee R. Becker. Bruce was a graduate of Carmel High
School, Monterey Peninsula College with an Associates degree, and The University of California at Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer
Science. He had worked in various aspects of the energy industry and most recently in pharmaceuticals. From early on in his childhood, Bruce loved the water
and sailing. He grew up sailing boats in the winter and water skiing in the summers until his high school years which he devoted to sailing on the Monterey
Bay. He had a passion for the open water, competition and the fellowship with other sailors. As a youth Bruce was a member of the Monterey Peninsula Yacht
Club and continued his active membership until his death. At one time he was the Harbor Master at StillWater Cove and enjoyed relationships with fellow
yachtsmen and clubs from Monterey to San Francisco. Bruce was a go-getter always trying to improve himself and reach ahead. Bruce was preceded in death
by his mother, Beverlee and his older sister, Georgiana (Gigi). He leaves behind his loving father, George; his older brother, Steve; his younger sister, Joanie
with husband Mike and five children; his former wife, Barbara Becker; and son, Robert (Robby) Becker. Following his wishes, there will be a small memorial
service at the Warf #2 Beach, Saturday, October 25 at 10:00am. His ashes will be scattered by his family following the service in his beloved Monterey Bay.
Bruce would have wanted any contributions in behalf of his memory be made to your favorite charity or the youth program at the Monterey Peninsula Yacht
Club. Bruce was such a loving, tender-hearted man that would do anything for anyone. He loved family, people, cooking, hiking, and laughing. He took great
pleasure in being outdoors, feeling the wind on his face and the beauty of the sea. We will miss him very much. Bruce's smile, the twinkle in his eye, and the joy
he brought to so many of us will forever be cherished. We will miss you very much Bruce.

In memory of the "MOOSE" Bruce Becker....we'll miss you sailor!
My friend Bruce Becker,

Bruce I'll miss your strong spirit and fun loving energy on Ay Caliente. You brought depth and a wealth of knowledge into our racing program and our lives.
From day one you put in 150% and gave of yourself unselfishly. You were always the first person to jump in when something needed to be done and you did it
with purpose and vigor. I will always remember your deep laughter as it shook the boat and rattled us to the core as we know it came from your soul. I know you
loved sailing as it was written in your smiles as we reached for marks as we passed our competition. I will always remember the good times we shared together
and the joy of having you as a part of our team and sailing family. I hope you are peacefully sailing an eternal beam reach...I'll miss you my friend...

Bruce, you were a committed crewmember, an exuberant partier, a patient teacher, and a loyal friend. I’m a better sailor and a better person for having known
you. You will live on in the memories of those blessed by your generosity, kindness and friendship. May love and peace be with you.

I am sorry to have the news of Bruce's passing. I will remember him with a big smile and a twinkle in his eyes that shows that the 'kid' inside was always right
there. Bruce's laughter was never far away. During this recent summer and fall I truly appreciated the time, energy, and friendship he gave while aboard Ay
Caliente, and in the places she brought us. His spirit will always remain as we remember him. Thank you Bruce, the crew of AC and I will miss you, and will carry
you with us always.

I met Bruce while racing sailboats. I found him to be a generous, gentle soul with an outrageous sense of humour. I loved talking to him about sailing and many
other aspects of life. He was a thoughtful, intelligent friend, I will miss him.

Respectfully,
~ Stuart Scott ~
Bruce, I will always remember racing with you, Steve and your dad to Santa Barbara many years ago. I will always remember our sailing with Greg in Monterey all
those years. We did have a great time. I will always remember your sailing with us in our first NOOD in San Francisco. You poured your heart and soul into that
regatta, but you also poured heart and soul into to being a friend. I am so very sad that you are no longer here on earth with us, but I take joy in your voyage
into a better life hereafter. Your friend,
~ Bob Doerr ~
Bruce, from the moment I met you I could feel your love for friends and family, passion for sailing, and serious concerns for the environment.  I am so glad I
had the opportunity to see you racing with the crew of Ay Caliente.  Your strength, dedication and determination were obvious.  I learned valuable lessons
from you that I will carry with me forever: give spontaneous compliments, laugh whenever possible, help without being asked, and oh yes - sing in public.  You
were a caring friend, and Monterey will have an empty spot without you.  I wish you peace in your journey from here.
